NEW WORK: Salton Sea

These images are from my series of the Salton Sea in the Imperial Valley of California. This area, gone from a prime vacation spot for the jet set in the sixties to semi-abandoned communities with strangely beautiful scenery. The periodic fish and bird die-offs are to some extent a mystery to ecologists and the wonderful blue look of the Sea is an illusion, merely a reflection of the desert sky, the true look of the Sea is like a dark beer. The beaches on closer look are made of dead fish carcasses from past die-offs and not sand. My trip to the Sea was an eye opener rich in visual possibilities and fascinating to come to understand.
